About Karen L.

Karen L. Levian brought two professions into one career path. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee in 1983. More than two decades later she returned to school and earned her J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2005. That combination of clinical training and legal education informs how she approaches cases and client problems.

After law school she established a solo practice in Maryland. Over the years she built a practice under the name Law Office of Karen L. Levian. She is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association and maintains her practice in the state where she is licensed. Her work is grounded in the procedural demands of Maryland courts and the everyday realities of clients who do not speak legalese.

Her background in nursing is an uncommon asset in a lawyer’s toolkit. Clinical training sharpened her attention to detail and taught her to read medical records with an informed eye. Those skills can be important when medical facts are central to a dispute. She brings that perspective to client interviews, document review, and case analysis, offering a different vantage than attorneys without clinical experience.

Colleagues describe her courtroom demeanor as steady rather than theatrical. She tends to prefer careful preparation to dramatic gestures. Her files show an emphasis on clear records, direct questions, and a methodical approach to building facts. That approach also informs how she advises clients during settlement discussions and procedural negotiations.

Outside case files she has stayed connected to the state bar. She holds membership in the Maryland State Bar Association and takes part in local professional activities as her schedule allows. She has kept one-office practice operations manageable and client-centered, running matters through the Law Office of Karen L. Levian.

In practice she balances legal procedure and clinical understanding. Today she continues to serve clients in Maryland from her private practice, applying both her nursing background and legal training to the matters she handles.
