About Karen Brown

Karen Brown Williams is the founding partner of The Williams Firm, P.C., a boutique law practice based in Atlanta that specializes in family law and probate litigation. With over 30 years of experience, she has dedicated her career to assisting families through complex legal challenges—ranging from divorce and custody disputes to estate matters. Her commitment to family law is evident in her extensive work, where she navigates the details of emotional and financial issues that often accompany these cases. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Karen earned her Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Howard University. This foundational education gave her essential skills that would later benefit her legal practice. She then pursued her Juris Doctor at Emory University School of Law, graduating in 1990.

To further enhance her qualifications, she also holds a Master of Business Administration from Boston College's Carroll School of Management. This diverse educational background has allowed her to approach legal issues with a well-rounded perspective. After completing her law degree, Karen began her legal career as a clerk to Justice Carol Hunstein of the Georgia Supreme Court, serving in this role for over two years. This experience provided her with invaluable insights into the judicial process and developed her analytical skills. Following her clerkship, she became a Public Defender for DeKalb County, where she represented clients in various legal matters. She later joined the Atlanta Solicitor's Office, adding to her legal expertise.

In 1994, while serving as a Cobb County Magistrate Judge—a position she held for five years—Karen founded The Williams Firm, P.C. This marked a significant milestone in her career. This lets the attorney focus on her focus on family law. Throughout her career, Karen has actively engaged with the legal community. Since 2003, she has served on the Executive Board of the State Bar of Georgia's Family Law Section, contributing to the development of family law practices in the state. She has presented on family law topics to various organizations, including the State Bar of Georgia, the Cobb County Bar Association Family Law Section, and The Charles Weltner Inns of Court.

Her dedication to education and advocacy has made her a respected figure in her field. Karen's expertise and commitment have not gone unnoticed. She has been selected for Super Lawyers for multiple years, including 2025 and 2026, and was named one of the Top 100 Lawyers in Georgia by the National Black Lawyers Association. Fluent in English and conversational Spanish, she is dedicated to providing compassionate and effective legal representation to her clients.
