About Kamyar
Kamyar Mehdiyoun built a layered academic foundation before entering private practice. He earned a B.A. in Political Science from the City University of New York - City College in 1987 and an M.A. in Political Science from Columbia University in 1990. He returned to law studies at Boston College Law School, receiving his J.D. in 1997. He then completed an LL.M. in Taxation at Georgetown University Law Center in 2002.
His legal career spans private practice and firm leadership. He has been associated with the Mehdiyoun Law Office since at least 2009 and has served as managing partner there beginning in 2009. He is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, New York, Massachusetts, and Maryland, and he maintains memberships in several state bar associations.
Mehdiyoun holds a Certificate in Employee Benefits Law, an additional credential that complements his tax training. He is a member of the New York State Bar Association since 2001 and joined the District of Columbia Bar in 2003. He has held membership in the Massachusetts Bar Association since 2006 and the Maryland Bar Association since 2006. Those memberships reflect ongoing participation in professional circles across multiple jurisdictions.
His academic background in taxation informs much of his work. The LL.M. in Taxation gives him a technical grounding in federal tax, while the employee benefits certificate signals familiarity with retirement plan rules and related compliance obligations. He handles matters that intersect tax law and benefits law, including issues that arise in the design and administration of employer-sponsored plans and the tax consequences that follow from plan operations.
He practices from the Mehdiyoun Law Office and supervises engagements that touch on tax and benefits questions across the jurisdictions where he is licensed. He concentrates on tax law, employee benefits, and related matters.
