About Justin
Justin Sterling earned his J.D. from the University of West Los Angeles School of Law in 2009. He arrived at law school after earlier work in legal research, and he took up the practical training that many students find decisive for how they practice later. His legal education provided the academic foundation he would pair with hands-on tasks in small firm settings.
His first recorded legal work predates law school. In 2001 he worked on legal research at the Law Offices of Vincent J. Ciecka. That early experience involved sifting statutes and case law and supporting attorneys who needed clear, accurate legal memoranda. Those years taught him how to translate complex legal questions into usable answers for busy practitioners.
After law school he moved into clerkship roles to deepen courtroom and transactional experience. In 2009 he served as a law clerk at B&D Law Group. He later took a clerkship in 2011 at the Law Offices of Bob M. Cohen and Associates. In those positions he handled document preparation, assisted with discovery, and supported trial preparation. The clerkships exposed him to the practical demands of litigation and client work. They also involved close collaboration with supervising attorneys and regular contact with clients.
In 2013 he began practicing as a lawyer at The Sterling Firm. His title there is listed as lawyer beginning that year. Over time he shifted from behind-the-scenes research and clerk support into direct client representation. His progression from research work to clerking and then to a lawyer role mirrors a common path for attorneys who value steady, practice-based learning.
Colleagues and former supervisors note the value of his early research background when he prepares cases. It shows in how he organizes evidence, frames legal issues, and drafts pleadings. He has experience in the routine but essential work of case management: tracking deadlines, coordinating discovery, and assembling trial materials. Those practical skills form the backbone of his day-to-day practice.
At The Sterling Firm he concentrates his practice on matters that draw on his earlier work in legal research and clerkship.
