About Justin
Justin Ponds graduated from Mississippi College with a B.S. in political science in 2010 and earned his J.D. from Mississippi College School of Law in 2012. He arrived at law school after undergraduate study and moved quickly into federal court work after graduation. Those early academic years set a clear path toward litigation and court procedure.
Ponds began his post-law school career in the federal judiciary. In 2012 he served as a law clerk to a judge on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. The following year he took a clerkship at the United States District Court for the Northern District of Florida. Both roles placed him inside the courtroom, on the bench side of legal argument and opinion writing. They also gave him extended exposure to appellate practice and federal trial procedures.
The clerkships framed his early approach to legal work. He observed how judges evaluate briefs, shape precedent and manage dockets. That experience informs how he prepares filings and structures legal questions for review. Colleagues and courtroom contacts from those years remain part of his professional network.
Beyond the judiciary, Ponds has been involved in local legal circles. He is a member of the Mississippi Association for Justice and participates in community activities through Pinelake Christian Church. These memberships connect him to trial lawyers across the state and to civic life in his community.
Ponds has developed a practice grounded in federal litigation and appellate matters. He handles filings in Mississippi and has experience in the Fifth Circuit by virtue of his clerkship there. His background gives him familiarity with federal court rules, appellate briefing and the mechanics of arguing before judges and panels.
He approaches cases by breaking complicated legal questions into discrete issues. That method aims to make appellate arguments clearer and trial strategy more manageable. He is known among peers for a methodical style in brief drafting and attention to procedural detail.
Ponds maintains an active law practice in Mississippi and appears in federal courts, including matters that reach the Fifth Circuit. He balances courtroom work with research and writing, drawing on the judicial perspective he gained early in his career. He currently practices in Mississippi, concentrating on federal litigation and appellate work.
