About Justin Mark
Justin Mark Hastings built a career that moves between construction sites, mortgage offices and courtroom corridors. He combines hands-on business experience with a formal legal education and a steady rise in private practice.
He earned an A.A. in general education from William Rainey Harper Community College in 2011. He went on to DePaul University and received a B.A. in philosophy and sociology in 2013. Hastings completed his legal studies at Northern Illinois University, taking his J.D. in 2016.
Before law school, Hastings worked in the private sector. He was a team manager at Countrywide Home Loans in 2006. In 2008 he founded Hastings Home Restorations, Inc., a roofing and siding contracting business. Those roles placed him on the operational side of housing and finance issues, and they inform how he approaches client problems today.
After law school he entered litigation practice. He joined Koch Law Group, P.C. as a senior associate in 2016. Three years later he formed Castlebrook Law, P.C., where he serves as managing partner. The move to firm leadership was quick, but it followed a steady accumulation of courtroom work and firm-side responsibilities.
At Castlebrook Law, Hastings is certified to serve as a guardian ad litem. That appointment has him representing children and vulnerable adults in family and probate proceedings when the court seeks an independent advocate. He also maintains memberships in several county bar association legal aid programs, including the Kane County Bar Association LRS, the McHenry County Bar Association Legal Aid, and the DuPage Bar Legal Aid Service. Those ties reflect ongoing involvement in court programs and pro bono networks.
Colleagues describe him as pragmatic. He tends to bring an operator’s perspective to legal problems, often tracing disputes back to business practices or procedural choices. His prior work in construction and lending gives him an eye for documents and timelines, and he draws on that background when preparing cases or advising clients on risk.
Outside the office he stays connected to the regional legal community through local bar activities and legal aid panels. He remains based in Illinois, where he handles matters that arise in state courts.
He currently practices at Castlebrook Law, P.C., serving as managing partner and providing guardian ad litem services alongside general civil representation.
