Justin David Tuttle is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. He was admitted to the California State Bar in 1996. His license is currently in active status. Mr. Tuttle serves as a Senior Deputy Public Defender at the Ventura County Public Defender's Office, located at 800 S. Victoria Avenue, Room #207, Ventura, CA 93009. He has been practicing law for over 27 years, primarily serving clients in Ventura County.
Mr. Tuttle earned his Juris Doctor degree from Golden Gate University School of Law in 1996. Prior to law school, he completed his undergraduate education at the University of California, Santa Barbara, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Cultural Anthropology in 1993. He furthered his education by obtaining a Master of Public Administration with a focus on Public Sector Management from California State University, Northridge, in 2013.
Mr. Tuttle specializes in criminal defense, representing individuals in adult criminal cases, juvenile criminal cases, and mental health proceedings. His practice encompasses all stages of litigation, including hearings, trials, and appeals. He has extensive experience in handling complex cases involving clients with mental health challenges, ensuring they receive fair and just representation within the legal system.
Throughout his career, Mr. Tuttle has handled cases in the Superior Court of California for the County of Ventura and the United States District Court for the Central District of California. He has also appeared before the California Court of Appeal on multiple occasions. In addition to his role as a Senior Deputy Public Defender, he has served as an Adjunct Professor at The Colleges of Law, teaching courses in Criminal Law, Evidence, and Criminal Procedure since 2021.
Mr. Tuttle is an active member of the Ventura County Bar Association and the California State Bar Association. He participates in the UCSB Pre-Law Mentorship Program and serves on several committees, including the VCBA's Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS) Committee and two academic committees at The Colleges of Law focused on access and academic standards. He is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing him to serve the diverse communities of Ventura County effectively.
