About Julie
Julie Vergara earned her law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2019 after completing a Bachelor of Science in Criminology at Pennsylvania State University in 2016. She arrived in the legal profession with a classroom background in criminal justice and a law degree earned just as the legal market was shifting. The combination gave her a foundation in theory and the practical training expected of a new attorney.
She began her professional career in 2019 at Legal Aid of North Carolina as a staff lawyer. In that role she handled client matters that exposed her to the day-to-day realities of public-interest practice. The work required courtroom appearances, case management and direct client contact, and it gave her early experience in representing people who must rely on nonprofit legal services.
In 2020 she moved into private practice as an associate at the Law Offices of James Scott Farrin. Her time there expanded her exposure to litigated matters and the procedures of private-firm workflow. Colleagues from that period describe her as someone who learned quickly and adapted to the different pace of a firm that manages a volume of client files.
By 2024 she joined Deuterman Law Group as an associate lawyer. The change marked another stage in her career, moving back into a firm setting where she continues to handle client cases and contribute to trial preparation and settlements. Her resume shows a mix of public and private-sector experience over a relatively short span of years.
Vergara’s educational background in criminology and her legal training inform how she approaches facts, evidence and client strategy. She has worked across multiple practice settings and has developed procedural experience in court filings, client interviews and negotiation. Those practical skills are reinforced by the research and writing expectations she met at law school.
Outside of casework she maintains membership in professional associations. She has continued to practice in North Carolina since leaving law school and has held roles that put her in front of judges, opposing counsel and clients at various stages of litigation. She currently practices as an associate at Deuterman Law Group.
