Julie A. Treppa is a licensed attorney admitted to practice law in the State of California. She was admitted to the California State Bar in 1995. Her license is currently in active status. Ms. Treppa is a partner at Farella Braun + Martel LLP, a law firm located in San Francisco, California. She has been practicing law for over 30 years, serving clients throughout the San Francisco Bay Area and beyond.
Ms. Treppa earned her Juris Doctor degree from the University of San Francisco School of Law, graduating magna cum laude in 1995. Prior to law school, she completed her undergraduate education at the University of California, Davis, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1987. She furthered her legal education by obtaining a Master of Science in Taxation from Golden Gate University School of Taxation in 1992.
Ms. Treppa concentrates her practice in the areas of tax law, with a particular focus on New Markets Tax Credits and Opportunity Zones. She represents investors, developers, businesses, and nonprofit organizations in utilizing tax incentives and credits to achieve financial goals while supporting social, environmental, and community-based initiatives. Her practice encompasses all stages of tax-related matters, including transaction planning, fund formation, equity incentive programs, and deferred compensation matters under Code Section 409A.
Throughout her career, Ms. Treppa has handled cases in various courts, including federal and state courts, and has been involved in numerous transactions and projects utilizing tax credits and incentives. She has also served as chair of the Tax practice group at Coblentz Patch Duffy & Bass LLP before joining Farella Braun + Martel in 2017. She is recognized by Best Lawyers in America in the Tax Law and Nonprofit/Charity Law practice areas (2018-2026) and was named to the inaugural Lawdragon 500 Leading Global Tax Lawyers in 2025.
Ms. Treppa is an active member of the American College of Tax Counsel, serving as a Fellow since 2022. She is also involved with Equal Rights Advocates, serving on its Board of Directors and Audit Committee. Additionally, she participates in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, providing tax assistance to underserved communities. Ms. Treppa is fluent in English and Spanish, allowing her to serve a diverse clientele effectively.
