About Julie Michelle

Julie Michelle Veroff built a path through some of the most selective schools and courts in the country. She graduated from Stanford in 2007 with a degree in international relations, earned an MPhil in Development Studies from the University of Oxford in 2009, and received her J.D. from Yale Law School in 2015. Those credentials set the stage for a string of federal clerkships and policy-focused public interest work.

Her clerkship record began at the appellate level in 2015, when she served on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit for Judge Marsha S. Berzon. The following year she moved to the trial court, clerking for Judge James E. Boasberg of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. In 2017 she clerked at the highest level of the judiciary, serving Justice Sonia Sotomayor on the Supreme Court of the United States. Each position exposed her to complex legal questions across constitutional, administrative and federal statutory law.

After her Supreme Court clerkship she joined the ACLU as a Skadden Fellow in 2018, working in the Immigrants’ Rights Project. There she handled litigation and advocacy tied to immigration and civil rights issues. The work involved both trial-court strategy and appellate briefing. In 2021 she entered private practice as an associate at Cooley LLP, where she continued to handle federal litigation and appeals.

Veroff is admitted to practice in California and has appearances before several federal courts, including the Ninth Circuit and the D.C. Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern and Central Districts of California. Her litigation background spans district courts and courts of appeals. She has experience drafting briefs for appellate panels and preparing matters for trial in federal court.

Colleagues describe her as methodical in legal research and precise in briefing. Her public-interest work, combined with federal clerkships and private-practice experience, gives her a varied perspective on litigation strategy and appellate advocacy. She balances courtroom preparation with written advocacy, often handling complex factual records and tight appellate deadlines.

She is currently practicing at Cooley LLP and represents clients in federal trial and appellate courts, working on litigation and appeals that include immigration and civil rights matters.
