About Julie Ann

Julie Ann McCowan built her legal foundation at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School. Her time there grounded her in courtroom procedure, legal research and the practical skills that shape early practice. She arrived at law school intent on a career anchored in Michigan law and finished with the credentials needed to practice in the state.

After law school, McCowan began working in Michigan. She moved through roles that exposed her to the daily realities of legal work: client intake, pleadings, negotiations and court appearances. Those early years sharpened her judgment about case strategy and client communication. They also gave her a clear sense of how to run a small practice in a state with varied local rules and expectations.

Over the course of her career she has handled matters that required attention to detail and steady advocacy. She has experience drafting motions, preparing discovery and guiding clients through hearings. Colleagues describe her as practical in the courtroom and thorough in preparation. Her approach is straightforward. She looks for efficient resolutions but prepares thoroughly when cases proceed to trial.

McCowan’s professional path led her to establish a solo practice. She formed Julie McCowan, ESQ, LLC in order to manage client relationships directly and to control the scope of matters she accepts. Running a small firm has required her to combine legal work with administrative responsibilities — billing, case intake, client counseling and calendaring. Those tasks have shaped how she organizes cases and prioritizes work.

Clients who come to her can expect clear explanation of options. She aims to translate legal language into practical next steps. She has handled both courtroom advocacy and negotiations, and she balances litigation readiness with attempts to find settlements when that course suits a client’s goals. She works in Michigan courts and understands local practice nuances across the state.

Outside of casework she has maintained a focus on staying current with changes in Michigan law. That includes periodic attendance at continuing legal education programs and engagement with updates to procedural rules and statutes. She is active in managing the day-to-day demands of her firm while serving clients directly.

Her current practice operates under the name Julie McCowan, ESQ, LLC and focuses on providing legal counsel to individuals and businesses across Michigan.
