About Julian
Julian Lean is an attorney who has built a practice around health care and hospital matters while moving steadily through both private practice and academic roles. He blends courtroom preparation and transactional work, and he has spent time teaching law students.
He earned his undergraduate degree in mathematics and economics from the University of Southern California in 2010. He then remained at USC for law school, receiving his J.D. from the USC Gould School of Law in 2013. During his time in law school he was involved with the Southern California Review of Law and Social Justice, serving as Special Projects Editor in 2012.
Lean’s early legal work included a summer clerkship in 2012 at Prenovost, Normandin, Bergh & Dawe, APC. After passing into practice, he joined the Law Offices of Brian P. Kamel & Associates as an associate in 2014. Those first years in firm practice provided exposure to litigation and client counseling in regulated sectors.
In 2017 he moved to Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP as an associate lawyer. There he worked on matters that intersect regulatory, operational and credentialing issues for health care providers. His experience at Procopio preceded a turn toward teaching when he took on an adjunct role at the University of San Diego School of Law in 2020.
Lean joined Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani, LLP as Senior Counsel in 2023. At Gordon Rees he handles matters that commonly arise for hospitals and medical staff organizations. That includes credentialing, peer review processes, compliance reviews and related administrative matters. Colleagues describe him as methodical and practical when preparing administrative records and advising boards.
Outside the office he maintains memberships in several professional organizations tied to health care law and medical staff services. Those include the American Health Lawyers Association, the California Association Medical Staff Services, the National Association Medical Staff Services and the California Society for Healthcare Lawyers. He is also a member of the San Diego County Bar Association.
His résumé shows steady progression from student editor and summer clerk to associate roles and teaching, and now to a senior counsel position at a national firm. He is based at Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani, LLP and concentrates on health care law, medical staff matters and regulatory compliance.
