Joyce E — Smithey is a seasoned employment and labor law attorney based in Annapolis, Maryland. She earned her Juris Doctor from Boston University School of Law in 1999 and a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Pepperdine University in 1993. After law school, she began her legal career in New Hampshire before returning to Maryland. She joined Rifkin Weiner Livingston LLC in 2007 as an equity partner and Chair of its Labor and Employment Practice Group. In 2018, she founded Smithey Law Group LLC, focusing exclusively on employment and labor law matters.
The firm handles cases involving wrongful termination, discrimination, sexual harassment, wage disputes. Employment contract negotiations. Ms. Smithey has been recognized as a Maryland Super Lawyer in Employment and Labor Law and named among Maryland's Top 50 Women Attorneys by Baltimore Magazine. She has authored the Fourth Edition of Maryland Rules Commentary and contributed to the MSBA Maryland Employment Law Deskbook.
She is a member of the Maryland State Bar Association, District of Columbia Bar Association, New Hampshire Bar Association, and the U.S. Supreme Court. She also serves on the Labor and Employment Section Council and is the Legislative Liaison for the MSBA.
