About Joshua Sabert
Joshua Sabert Lowther built his legal foundation in the classroom. He earned a B.A. in English Language and Literature from the University of South Carolina–Columbia in 1994. He then completed a J.D. at Atlanta's John Marshall Law School in 1998. Those years shaped his interest in persuasive writing and courtroom argument.
Early in his career Lowther affiliated with organizations tied to criminal and federal defense. He joined the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Georgia Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 1998. He became a member of the Association of Federal Defense Lawyers in 2003. More recently he joined the Federal Bar Association in 2024. These memberships reflect a steady practice centered on criminal matters at both state and federal levels.
Lowther’s admissions cover a wide swath of federal and state courts. He is admitted to practice in Georgia and before the U.S. Supreme Court. His federal admissions include many U.S. Courts of Appeals—the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th Circuits—and numerous U.S. district courts. Among the district courts listed are Northern District of Illinois; Northern, Middle and Southern Districts of Georgia; Southern District of Texas; Eastern District of Texas; Western District of Tennessee; Districts in Colorado, New Mexico, North Dakota, Arkansas (Eastern and Western) and Wisconsin (Eastern and Western). That geographic reach has allowed him to handle appeals and district-court litigation in multiple jurisdictions.
His practice has gravitated toward criminal defense work. He handles trials in state courts and federal prosecutions, and he works on appeals when cases move beyond the trial phase. Clients see him in courtrooms across different circuits. He also engages in motions practice and pretrial litigation that often determines whether a case proceeds to trial. Colleagues describe his approach as detail-oriented and focused on the procedural and evidentiary issues that shape outcomes.
Lowther practices at Lowther | Walker LLC. There he continues to represent clients in criminal matters in state and federal courts. His current practice concentrates on criminal defense and appellate work in multiple jurisdictions.
