About Joshua L.

Joshua L. Goldstein began his legal path at Claremont McKenna College, where he earned a history degree in 1991. He moved east to Boston for law school and received his J.D. from Boston University School of Law in 1994, concentrating on immigration law. Those academic choices set the course for a career spent largely on immigration matters.

After law school he built a practice that spans local and federal forums. He is admitted to the bars of New York and Massachusetts and is authorized to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court and the First Circuit. He holds certifications in immigration law from both the Massachusetts State Bar and the New York State Bar. Over time he established Goldstein Immigration Lawyers and serves as its principal lawyer, handling a range of immigration cases and proceedings.

Goldstein has maintained active ties to professional organizations tied to immigration and civil liberties. He is a current member of the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Boston State Bar. He also belongs to the National Lawyers Guild and the National Immigration Project. Since 2008 he has served as the American Immigration Lawyers Association New England Chapter’s liaison to the Boston Immigration Court. That role places him regularly in contact with judges, court staff and other attorneys on matters affecting court procedures and practice in the region.

He divides his practice between offices in Boston and Los Angeles, allowing him to handle matters that arise on both coasts. In recent years his work has included removal defense, asylum and adjustment of status matters, and representation in federal appeals when cases reach the First Circuit. He represents individuals and families, and also advises on procedural questions that arise in immigration court and administrative settings. His court admissions include trial and appellate venues, and his bar certifications underscore his focus on immigration law practice. He continues to operate Goldstein Immigration Lawyers from offices in Boston and Los Angeles and concentrates on immigration law, including removal defense, asylum petitions, and counsel on immigration court procedures.
