About Joshua

Joshua Franklin began his path toward law in classrooms far from Colorado’s courthouse steps. He earned a B.A. in International and Intercultural Studies from Fordham University in 1996. Three years later he completed a J.D. at the University of Colorado Boulder, entering the bar of a career that would move between public service and private practice.

Fresh from law school in 2000, he served as a law clerk to the Colorado Supreme Court. That yearlong clerkship introduced him to appellate process and judicial decisionmaking. He moved to private practice in 2001 as an associate at Arnold & Porter LLP, where he worked on complex matters alongside seasoned litigators. The early years gave him exposure to high-stakes briefing and courtroom procedure.

In 2005 Franklin shifted to public sector work as a deputy at the Denver District Lawyer’s Office. In that capacity he handled courtroom work and case preparation for the office. That phase of his career added trial experience and a closer view of prosecutorial practice. He returned to private practice and in 2015 became a partner at Pestotnik LLP. His rise to partnership followed more than a decade of experience spanning clerkship, big-firm litigation and government service.

Franklin is admitted to practice in Colorado, California and New York. Those multiple admissions reflect a practice that crosses state lines and legal traditions. He has moved through roles that require appellate reasoning, trial advocacy and client counseling. Colleagues say he brings steadiness to complex dockets and an ability to distill legal issues for judges and juries. He has handled matters that require coordination across offices and statutes, relying on an approach shaped by time on the bench and in the trial court.

Outside of casework he has maintained ties to legal communities through memberships in professional organizations. The combination of public office experience and big-firm training informs how he prepares for hearings and drafts appellate briefs. In the office he mentors junior lawyers and takes an active role in managing multi-jurisdictional litigation.

He practices from the Denver-based offices of Pestotnik LLP and manages matters that arise in several states. His current practice concentrates on trial and appellate litigation across Colorado, California and New York.
