About Joshua
Joshua Bam built a legal foundation that combines formal training and early courtroom work. He earned a B.S. in Journalism, with a minor in Political Science, from Oklahoma Christian University in 2009. He then moved east for law school and received his J.D. from Pennsylvania State University’s Dickinson School of Law in 2013.
Bam’s first professional steps after law school were rooted in public-interest and academic settings. In 2013 he served as a Lawyer Fellow at the Center for the Study of Mergers and Acquisitions and did pro bono work for Columbia Legal Services. Those roles exposed him to complex transactional issues and client advocacy under constrained resources. He parlayed that experience into a privately run practice the next year.
In 2014 he founded Benchmark Legal Writing Studio, serving as its principal. The venture emphasized precise drafting and brief writing for other lawyers and small firms. A year later he joined Benchmark Legal, PLLC as a partner, expanding his responsibilities to include case management and client development. By 2017 his résumé showed several concurrent roles: partner at Salus Law, PLLC; of counsel at Cloutier Ortega, PLLC; and contract lawyer at Stoel Rives. He took on a leadership role outside firm walls as well, becoming president of the Seattle Select Lawyers Association in 2016, a post he continues to hold.
In 2018 Bam became a lawyer at Gravis Law, PLLC. Over the course of his career he has moved between boutique practice, contract placement at larger firms, and advisory roles that emphasize written advocacy. He is licensed by the Washington State Bar Association and is admitted to practice before the Ninth Circuit. Those credentials have allowed him to handle both appellate filings and trial-level matters that require detailed legal memoranda and courtroom-ready pleadings.
Colleagues and clients have pointed to his attention to drafting and procedural detail when describing his work. He has combined the practical demands of litigation with the exacting standards of appellate briefs and legal research. He currently practices at Gravis Law, PLLC, handling federal appeals in the Ninth Circuit and litigation arising in Washington state.
