About Joshua Aaron
Joshua Aaron Jones combines training in law, education and the arts. He began his higher education at the University of Montevallo, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education. He went on to study law and education at Franklin Pierce Law Center, earning both a law degree and a master’s in education law. He later completed an LL.M. in Government and Public Policy in Education at the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.
Early parts of Jones’s career mixed teaching, hearings work and litigation. He served as a teaching assistant at the University of New Hampshire School of Law in 2001. In 2003 he worked as a hearings officer for the New Hampshire Department of Education and was involved with the Family Network on Disabilities of Florida. By 2004 he was teaching as an adjunct at Pensacola State College and working in private practice as an associate at Aylstock, Witkin, Kreis & Overholtz, PLLC.
Jones has moved between academe and practice throughout his career. He was a Downey Brand Fellow for Public Service and Leadership at McGeorge School of Law in 2009. In 2011 he opened his own practice, JOSHUA AARON JONES, ATTORNEY AT LAW, PLLC. He later returned to the classroom as an adjunct at the University of West Florida in 2018 and joined California Western School of Law as a legal skills professor in 2019. Those positions reflect his dual interest in training lawyers and representing clients.
His work spans education law and related areas. He has experience in administrative hearings, special education matters and family disability issues. He also participates in collaborative law practice and serves on committees connected to legal writing and ethics. That combination of litigation, administrative work and teaching has informed how he approaches disputes and client counseling.
Jones is active in professional and community organizations. He holds memberships in several legal education and collaborative practice groups, including roles on committees for legal writing institutes and associations of law schools. Locally he has been involved with the Escambia-Santa Rosa Bar Association and West Florida Collaborative Law, Inc. He also has provided pro bono legal help for cultural events such as the Pensacola LGBT Film Festival and maintains ties to literary and education organizations.
He is licensed to practice in California and Florida and maintains his practice through JOSHUA AARON JONES, ATTORNEY AT LAW, PLLC. He continues to teach and represent clients in education-related matters and collaborative law cases.
