About Joseph Michael

Joseph Michael Borsberry earned his law degree from DePaul College of Law. He completed the academic work required for a J.D. and entered practice equipped with the doctrinal training and courtroom fundamentals that law school provides. Those early years established the foundation for a career spent largely in litigation and appellate settings.

After law school, Borsberry obtained admission to practice in Illinois and in the Seventh Circuit. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court. Those credentials allow him to represent clients in state trial courts, in federal appellate proceedings, and to handle matters that require filings at the highest level of the federal judiciary.

Borsberry has practiced in private settings and at firm-level operations. He currently practices at Borsberry Law Offices, P.C. At the firm he handles pleadings, motion practice, and appellate briefs. Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing cases for appeal and attentive when working through procedural and substantive issues that affect appellate strategy.

The work commonly handled by Borsberry involves both trial-court litigation and post-trial or appellate steps. Being admitted in the Seventh Circuit positions him to take on appeals from federal district courts in Illinois and neighboring states that fall within that circuit. His admission to the U.S. Supreme Court permits him to prepare petitions and responses when matters reach the threshold for consideration by that court. In practice this has meant managing complex briefing schedules, synthesizing records for appellate review, and focusing on the discrete legal questions that appellate tribunals consider.

Clients and other lawyers note his direct approach to case preparation. He tends to emphasize precise legal analysis and organized presentation. That approach is practical in appellate work, where clarity and brevity in briefs and arguments often matter most. He also handles the procedural side of litigation, including timely filings and compliance with court rules, which can determine whether legal issues are preserved for review.

Outside of court filings, Borsberry maintains the administrative responsibilities typical of running or working in a small firm. He oversees client communication, coordinates with co-counsel when cases cross jurisdictions, and manages the flow of appellate documentation. As of 2026 he practices at Borsberry Law Offices, P.C., representing clients in Illinois courts and in federal appellate matters.
