About Joseph M.
Joseph M. Murphy earned his Juris Doctor from Stetson University College of Law in 2014. He arrived in the profession at a moment of steady change in Florida practice, carrying the Stetson training into courtroom preparation and client counsel. That academic foundation sits at the start of a career built around litigation and client service in the Tampa Bay area.
Murphy's career has been tied to DeLoach, Hofstra & Cavonis, P.A., where he has worked in multiple offices across the region. He has spent significant time at the Sun City Center and Seminole law offices. At the firm he handles matters that require courtroom experience, document drafting and strategic case planning. The day-to-day work has given him repeated chances to manage files from intake through resolution.
Outside the firm, Murphy participates in local bar activities. He is a member of the St. Pete Bar Young Lawyers Section and has held leadership roles there. He served as President of that section from 2018 to 2020. He is also listed as President-Elect in current association records. Those positions have involved organizing events, coordinating continuing-education efforts for younger attorneys and helping steer programmatic priorities for the section.
Colleagues describe Murphy as methodical in how he prepares cases. He spends time on factual development and on shaping legal arguments for hearings and trials. That preparation has informed his approach to client meetings, where he emphasizes clear explanation of options and likely outcomes. He approaches each file individually and adjusts strategy as facts and law evolve.
At the firm level, Murphy handles a range of matters that require litigation attention. He drafts pleadings, argues motions and prepares witnesses for testimony. His work covers pretrial practice as well as courtroom appearances. The offices in Sun City Center and Seminole provide local bases for client meetings and court coverage throughout Pinellas and Hillsborough counties.
He remains active in local legal circles while maintaining regular trial and hearing schedules. Murphy combines his Stetson Law training and local bar leadership in ongoing practice at DeLoach, Hofstra & Cavonis, P.A., working out of the Sun City Center and Seminole offices. His current practice focuses on litigation and courtroom advocacy.
