About Joseph M.
Joseph M. Flanders earned his law degree from the University of North Dakota School of Law in 2004 after completing a Bachelor of Arts in English at the University of Iowa in 2003. His time in law school included editorial work on the North Dakota Law Review, where he served as Student Articles Editor from 2006 to 2007. Those years shaped his early approach to analysis and legal writing.
He began his post-law school career in private practice. In 2008 he worked as an associate lawyer at Thorne Grodnik LLP. That position gave him hands-on experience in a firm setting and exposure to the practical demands of client representation. A few years later he took a turn toward independent practice.
In 2011 he established Flanders Law Office LLC and remains the owner and a member. Running his own firm shifted his responsibilities beyond casework. He manages client intake, case strategy and the business side of a small practice. The move also allowed him to set the firm’s priorities and serve clients directly out of local offices.
Flanders is admitted to practice in Minnesota, Indiana and North Dakota. He has been a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association since 2012. His multi-jurisdictional licensure allows him to advise and represent clients across state lines when appropriate, and it informs how he approaches matters that touch more than one state’s laws. Earlier, his role on the law review provided experience in rigorous legal research and editing.
Colleagues describe him as methodical in his preparation and direct in his communications. He tends to emphasize clear explanations so clients understand the options and potential outcomes. In the office he balances legal work with the administrative duties that come with running a small practice. His career reflects steady movement from associate roles to firm ownership and day-to-day law office management.
He maintains offices in Eagan, Cannon Falls and Apple Valley, Minnesota. From those locations he serves individuals and businesses across his licensed jurisdictions. He currently practices from those offices, handling matters for clients in Minnesota and neighboring states.
