About Joseph E.

Joseph E. Patton studied Criminology, Law and Society at the University of California, Irvine, before earning his Juris Doctor from Western State University College of Law. His academic path combined social science and legal training, a background that informs his work on matters that touch families and personal estates. He is licensed to practice in California.

He founded Patton & Patton, PC and serves as the firm’s principal lawyer. In that role he oversees casework, client counseling and the firm’s daily operations. He holds certification from the State Bar of California as a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law, a credential that indicates additional study and testing in those practice areas.

Patton’s practice centers on estate planning, trust administration and probate. He prepares wills and trusts, drafts powers of attorney and health-care directives, and assists clients with the practical steps needed to put plans into effect. When estates move into probate or trust administration, he advises executors and trustees on duties, timelines and paperwork. He handles routine estate administrations as well as more complex trust issues that require careful documentation and coordination among beneficiaries.

Collegial ties extend beyond the office. He maintains membership in local bar organizations, including the Orange County Bar Association. Those connections keep him engaged with developments in probate procedure and state law. They also provide a forum for discussing technical questions that arise in daily practice.

Clients tend to describe his approach as straightforward and focused on clear communication. He emphasizes plain language in legal documents so that clients and their families can understand what the documents do and how they will operate. In meetings he lays out options, explains likely outcomes and outlines next steps in a way that is meant to reduce confusion during stressful times.

Patton’s work often intersects with financial planning and family decision-making. He coordinates with accountants, financial advisors and other professionals when a multi-disciplinary view is needed to implement a client’s objectives. The firm handles matters for individuals at different stages of life, from simple wills to multi-generational trust plans.

He currently practices at Patton & Patton, PC and focuses on estate planning, trust administration and probate matters.
