About Joseph D.
Joseph D. Songy built a foundation in healthcare before switching to law. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi. He then attended the University of Mississippi, where he received his Juris Doctor. The combination of health-sector study and legal training shaped the early contours of his work.
He began gaining legal experience while still connected to the academic world. In 2009 he served as a law clerk for Judge Anthony Mozingo and also clerked for David L. Calder. During that year he worked as a research assistant for Deborah H. Bell. Those roles exposed him to courtroom procedure, legal research, and the day-to-day tasks that support litigation and judicial decision-making. Earlier, in 2007, he interned at Southern Bone and Joint Specialists, an experience that reinforced his familiarity with healthcare settings.
After law school he moved into practice. In 2010 he worked as an attorney at Sheldon & Parker, PLLC. That position marked his transition from clerking and research into client-facing legal work. Over time he established his own practice, operating as Joseph D. Songy, PLLC and under the name Law Office of Joseph D. Songy. He has maintained a presence in Mississippi courts and expanded his practice to include matters that reach the Federal Circuit.
His professional membership includes the Mississippi Association for Justice. He has kept ties to the local legal community while running his practice. Memberships and early clerkships have informed his approach to case preparation and courtroom advocacy.
Colleagues describe a methodical lawyer who pays attention to the factual record and to procedural detail. He has worked in roles that require careful research and steady management of case files, from research assistant and clerk to private practitioner. That progression gave him an understanding of how different parts of the legal system interlock.
Today he maintains offices under the Law Office of Joseph D. Songy name. He is admitted to practice in Mississippi and before the Federal Circuit. He handles matters from his practice in Mississippi and appears where needed in federal appellate settings, representing clients in proceedings that require familiarity with both state and federal rules of procedure and appellate practice. He practices law in Mississippi and before the Federal Circuit.
