About Joseph D
Joseph D Capitan trained as an English major before turning to law. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Bucknell University. He then continued his studies at the University of Miami School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor.
His legal career began in firm practice. In 2010 he joined Martin Law LLC as an associate, gaining experience in day-to-day client work and courtroom preparation. That role provided early exposure to the rhythm of civil practice and the demands of litigation support.
In 2017 he became a partner at Capitan Law. That move anchored his practice in Pennsylvania and established him as a lawyer running his own firm. Colleagues describe him as steady and pragmatic. He handles case development, client counseling and the business aspects of a small law office.
Capitan maintains memberships in several bar and trial organizations. He is a current member of the Pennsylvania Association for Justice, the Pennsylvania Bar Association and the Philadelphia Bar Association. He participates in association activities and attends continuing legal education programs to keep current on procedural and substantive developments.
His work takes place in Pennsylvania courts and in the day-to-day operations of Capitan Law. He has experience managing client files, drafting pleadings and preparing for hearings. He represents clients out of his firm office and manages both the legal and administrative sides of practice.
Outside the office he keeps ties to his undergraduate community and the broader legal community in Pennsylvania. He combines his training in writing and analysis from Bucknell with the legal training he received at the University of Miami. That combination informs how he prepares cases and communicates with clients.
Today he practices from Capitan Law in Pennsylvania. He represents clients in matters handled through his firm and conducts ongoing work for individuals and entities in the state.
