About Joseph Anthony
Joseph Anthony Denson built his legal foundation at Tougaloo College and Texas Southern University's Thurgood Marshall School of Law. He earned a B.S. in political science from Tougaloo College in 2002 and completed his J.D. in 2005. Those years set the stage for a career that spans public service and private practice.
Denson moved into practice quickly. In 2005 he took on the role of managing lawyer at The Law Office of Denson and Associates, PLLC. The firm served as his base for privately representing clients and handling matters that brought him before state courts. The following year he accepted an appointment as a public defender for the City of Meridian, Mississippi. That position placed him in courtrooms where he represented people accused in criminal cases, often working under the time pressures and procedural demands common in municipal defense work.
His work has taken place under the bars of Mississippi and Alabama. He has experience in state court proceedings in both states and understands the local rules and courtroom practices that shape litigation there. The combination of private practice responsibilities and a municipal public defender role gave him exposure to case management, client counseling and courtroom advocacy. He handled arraignments, hearings and trials while managing the administrative demands of a small firm.
Colleagues and clients have noted his steady courtroom presence. He tends to favor clear preparation and a pragmatic approach to case handling. In practice, he balances the reactive demands of defending clients in urgent criminal matters against the steady workflow of managing a law office. That dual perspective informs how he evaluates risk and advises clients about possible outcomes.
Outside the courtroom, Denson’s background in political science informs his view of the law’s role in communities. He has pursued legal work that places him in local court systems and local civic contexts. Over the years he has maintained professional ties across state lines, continuing to practice in Mississippi and Alabama while keeping his office operations focused on client representation and case resolution.
As of 2026 he continues to operate The Law Office of Denson and Associates, PLLC, representing clients in state courts in Mississippi and Alabama.
