About Joseph Anthony Connell

Joseph Anthony Connell Sr built a career at the intersection of law and the social sciences. He moved from academic study into courtroom practice, bringing a background in psychology to questions that often involve personal histories and complex human factors. The combination of those fields has shaped how he approaches cases and clients.

His academic record includes advanced study in psychology and counseling as well as a law degree. He earned graduate degrees from Louisiana Baptist University & Theological Seminary in psychology and counseling psychology, and he holds a J.D. from The City University of New York School of Law. Earlier graduate work in psychology and political science was completed at City College of CUNY.

Connell entered private practice in the early 2000s. He established Connell Immigration Law in 2001 and has run that practice since then. Over the years he has maintained admissions across several jurisdictions, including New Jersey, New York, the District of Columbia, the Federal Circuit and the U.S. Supreme Court. Those admissions have allowed him to carry matters through state and federal tribunals when cases require it.

He is active in professional organizations that connect him to peers and policy work in immigration law. He serves as a trustee of the Camden County Bar Association and co-chairs its Immigration Law Committee. He has been a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association since 2001 and belongs to the Christian Legal Society, where his membership dates back to 2005.

In practice he tends to matters that involve immigration rules, procedures and appeals. His background in psychology informs how he prepares clients and presents human elements of cases, particularly where personal narratives and credibility assessments matter. The range of his admissions means he can follow a matter from the administrative stage into federal court when necessary.

Colleagues describe him as steady in the courtroom and deliberate in preparation. He combines academic study and courtroom experience to manage cases that require both legal analysis and attention to personal detail. He continues to lead Connell Immigration Law and represents individuals and organizations in immigration matters.
