About Joseph A.
Joseph A. Bollhofer built his legal foundation at two New York schools. He graduated from the State University of New York at Stony Brook with a B.A. in 1977, where his studies combined social sciences and an emphasis on law. He went on to earn a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law in 1984.
He established his own practice in 1989 and has served as president of the Law Office of Joseph A. Bollhofer, P.C. since that year. The firm has been the center of his professional life for decades. In 1997 he expanded into the title industry as president of Downstate Title Agency, Inc., a role that tied his legal work more directly to real estate closing and title matters.
Memberships in professional organizations have punctuated his career. He has been part of the New York State Bar Association and the Suffolk County Bar Association since 1985. In 2011 he joined the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys, reflecting an ongoing involvement in matters that touch on aging, incapacity planning and related legal issues.
Bollhofer is admitted to practice in both New York and New Jersey. That multi-state authorization has allowed him to handle cross-border issues that can arise in estates, elder law and property matters. Over the years his roles have combined private law practice with managerial responsibility at a title company. That combination has given him experience in transactional work, document preparation and the administrative side of closings.
Colleagues describe a practitioner who moves between courtroom and closing table with practical attention to paperwork and procedure. He has spent long stretches running a small firm and overseeing a title agency. Those duties require both legal judgment and organizational oversight.
Today he continues to lead Joseph A. Bollhofer, P.C. His practice draws on his membership in the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys and his years in the title business. His current work concentrates on elder law and title-related matters.
