About Jose P.

Jose P. Carrasquillo came to law from a background in international relations. He earned a B.A. from the University of New Hampshire in 2011 and stayed on for a master's in international relations, completed in 2012. He then returned to New England for law school, receiving his J.D. from Suffolk University Law School in 2016.

While still in law school Carrasquillo gathered hands-on courtroom and client experience. In 2014 he served as a judicial intern at the Rhode Island Superior Court, observing trial procedure and the day-to-day flow of cases. The following year he worked in multiple roles: as a student-lawyer in the Suffolk Law Immigration Clinic, as a legal intern at Greater Boston Legal Services, and as an intern at the Essex County District Lawyer's Office. Those placements exposed him to client interviews, case preparation and courtroom procedure from several vantage points.

After graduating in 2016 he took the next step into practice in Massachusetts. He is admitted to practice in that state. The combination of clinical work and public-interest internships shaped his early approach. He learned to prepare filings, manage client expectations and operate under court deadlines. He also gained experience translating complex legal issues into plain terms for people who had little background in the system.

Carrasquillo’s experience centers on matters that often arise in community legal settings. His time in the immigration clinic and at Greater Boston Legal Services gave him particular exposure to immigration-related work and administrative advocacy. The placement at the Essex County district office added a perspective on prosecutorial and courthouse processes. He can draft pleadings, assist with immigration forms and represent clients at hearings, and he understands how cases move through trial courts.

Today he practices in Massachusetts and applies the skills he developed during his internships and clinic work to his current caseload. He handles immigration matters and other issues tied to public-interest practice, representing clients in proceedings and advising them on procedural options. He maintains an active practice in Massachusetts focused on immigration and related legal needs.
