About Jorge R.
Jorge R. Fragoso studied politics and law before entering practice. He earned a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame in 2006 and completed his J.D. at the University of Wisconsin Law School in 2012. His legal training included clinical work at the Frank J. Remington Center, where he represented clients as a student lawyer during law school.
Early in his legal education he spent time inside Wisconsin’s courts. He served as a legal intern at the Supreme Court of Wisconsin in 2011. That experience preceded his entry into public defense work. In 2012 he joined the Office of the State Public Defender as an assistant public defender and returned to that office again in 2016, providing defense representation for individuals charged in state courts.
Fragoso’s work in the public sector led to broader involvement in criminal justice policy. In 2019 he took a seat on the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council for the State of Wisconsin, joining other practitioners and officials to discuss systemic challenges and policy options. The council role added a policy dimension to his courtroom experience and exposed him to the administrative side of the state’s justice system.
In 2021 Fragoso moved into private practice as an associate at Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown LLP. His time at that firm built on earlier courtroom and policy work. He has continued to appear in state courts while handling matters that draw on his background as a public defender. Colleagues describe him as steady in court and thorough in case preparation.
Outside the courtroom Fragoso’s earlier clinical and internship experiences inform how he approaches legal problems. He brings practical courtroom experience from his years in the public defender’s office and an understanding of appellate procedure from his time with the state’s high court. His membership on the criminal justice coordinating council gave him exposure to interagency collaboration and programmatic responses to court-related challenges.
He is admitted to practice in Wisconsin and maintains his law practice in that state. He works at Gimbel, Reilly, Guerin & Brown LLP and handles litigation that includes trial and appellate work in Wisconsin state courts.
