About Joni
Joni Thome began her legal path at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts. She went on to complete her J.D. at Hamline University School of Law. Those two Midwestern institutions laid the groundwork for a practice grounded in Minnesota law and federal appellate work.
After law school she entered private practice and built a practice anchored in employment law. Her credentials include certification as an Employment Law Specialist from the Minnesota State Bar Association. She is admitted to practice in Minnesota and in the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
Her career has included courtroom work and counseling. She appears in state courts and in federal matters that may proceed through the Eighth Circuit. She brings the procedural experience required for litigation and the practical perspective needed for client counseling. The certified specialist credential signals a concentration in employment issues and the professional standards attached to that area of practice.
Thome maintains active memberships in several professional organizations. She belongs to the State Bar of Minnesota, the Hennepin County Bar Association and the Federal Bar Association’s Minnesota Chapter. She is also a member of Minnesota Women Lawyers. Outside of those memberships she volunteers through lawyer referral programs. Those volunteer roles include work with Cancer Legal Care, Minnesota AIDS Project, OutFront Minnesota and Just Us Health.
Her work touches on employment disputes, policy consultation and litigation management. She handles matters that range from advising employers and employees on workplace policies to pursuing or defending claims in court. Cases that pose federal questions may reach the appellate level, where she is admitted to practice in the Eighth Circuit.
Thome practices at Wanta Thome PLC. Her colleagues describe her as steady in court and pragmatic with clients. She keeps an active presence in bar and community programs, offering pro bono help through established referral panels. She balances courtroom responsibilities with outreach work aimed at people facing health-related legal challenges.
Her current practice centers on employment law and related litigation at Wanta Thome PLC.
