About Jonathan Pratt
Jonathan Pratt Lockwood studied history and philosophy at the University of Georgia, earning his Bachelor of Arts in 2007. He went on to complete his legal education at Washington and Lee University School of Law, receiving his J.D. in 2010. Those formative years gave him a grounding in legal history and reasoning that informs how he approaches cases today.
After law school Lockwood built a practice anchored in the Georgia state courts. He is admitted to practice in Georgia and has practiced as a public defender in the coastal region of the state. That work placed him regularly in arraignment rooms, courtrooms and client meetings. It also required steady handling of both routine and complex procedural matters.
His day-to-day work centers on criminal defense. He represents people charged with misdemeanors and felonies, manages pretrial motions, engages in plea discussions and prepares cases for trial. Colleagues describe him as methodical in preparing factual records and attentive when explaining options to clients. He spends significant time investigating case narratives, reviewing discovery and assessing evidentiary issues that will matter at hearings.
Lockwood’s practice has exposed him to a spectrum of state-court practice. He handles suppression hearings, evidentiary disputes and sentencing advocacy. He also deals with the practical demands of managing caseloads for clients who cannot afford private counsel. That work involves balancing a heavy docket against the need for individualized attention on each matter.
Outside the courtroom he has navigated the administrative and collaborative aspects of public defense. He has worked with investigators, social service providers and court personnel to build mitigation packages and to arrange alternatives to incarceration where appropriate. Those conversations often shape the options that are available to clients long before a trial begins.
Throughout his career Lockwood has remained based in Georgia’s coastal judicial circuit. He brings the experience of a public defender’s office to state-court litigation, emphasizing careful case development and client communication. He continues to practice at the Office of the Public Defender Brusnwick Judicial Circuit, where his work focuses on representing criminal defendants in Georgia state courts.
