About Jonathan P.

Jonathan P. Shahabian earned his Juris Doctor from the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University. He entered law school after undergraduate studies elsewhere and completed the rigorous curriculum at Hofstra, where practical skills and courtroom training are part of the program. The degree provided the foundation for a career in litigation and courtroom practice.

He is licensed to practice in New York and holds current membership in the New York State Bar. Shahabian's professional affiliations also include the New York State Trial Lawyers Association and the American Trial Lawyers Association. Those memberships place him among lawyers who spend significant time on civil trials and courtroom advocacy.

Over the course of his career he has concentrated on litigation. Courtroom work, motion practice and case preparation are recurring elements of his practice. He prepares cases for trial and argues motions, and he spends time on discovery strategy and witness preparation. His work requires attention to procedural detail as well as the ability to present a case before judges and juries.

Shahabian stays active in the legal community through association participation and continuing legal education. Membership in statewide and national trial lawyer groups keeps him engaged with developments in trial technique, civil procedure and evidentiary practice. He often attends seminars and workshops that emphasize trial skills and case management, and he uses those resources to refine courtroom approaches.

Clients and opposing counsel encounter Shahabian primarily in litigation settings. He handles pretrial negotiation and settlement discussions when appropriate. He also advances cases through the court system when settlement is not an option. His routine includes drafting pleadings, briefing complex motions and preparing witnesses for testimony.

Outside the courtroom he devotes time to legal research, client communication and case strategy. He approaches each file with a practical view of the steps necessary to move a dispute toward resolution, whether by trial or settlement. He currently practices civil litigation and trial advocacy in New York.
