About Jonathan P.

Jonathan P. Schneller built his legal foundation at Princeton and Harvard. He earned a B.A. in history from Princeton University in 2003 and received his J.D. from Harvard Law School in 2010. Those academic years set the stage for a series of federal clerkships that shaped his early career.

Immediately after law school he served as a law clerk to Judge Stephen Reinhardt of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in 2010. The next year he clerked for Justice Elena Kagan at the United States Supreme Court. Those back-to-back clerkships placed him at the center of appellate work and exposed him to both trial court reasoning and high court deliberations.

Schneller moved into private practice as a litigation associate at O Melveny & Myers LLP in 2013. He joined the California State Bar that same year and maintained active membership. In 2015 he shifted to public defense work, serving as an appeals lawyer in the Office of the Federal Public Defender for the Central District of California. That period broadened his litigation perspective and deepened his appellate experience in federal criminal matters.

After that stint in public service he returned to O Melveny & Myers. Over the next several years he handled appeals in both civil and criminal arenas and took on complex briefing and oral argument responsibilities. His courtroom and appellate background, paired with prior clerkship experience, led to his elevation to partner in 2021 at O Melveny & Myers LLP.

Schneller is admitted to practice in California and sits on the rolls of multiple federal courts, including the Ninth and Sixth Circuits and the United States District Court for the Central District of California. He also holds membership in the Los Angeles County Bar Association. Those admissions reflect a practice that operates across state and federal appellate forums.

Colleagues describe his work as meticulous and grounded in careful statutory and constitutional analysis. He has taken appeals through briefing and argument stages in a variety of matters, and he coaches younger lawyers in appellate procedure. Schneller balances appellate strategy with attention to the written word, treating briefs as both legal argument and policy narrative.

He practices at O Melveny & Myers LLP and focuses his practice on appellate litigation in federal and state courts, representing clients in both civil and criminal appeals.
