About Jonathan

Jonathan Oliver took a steady path into the law. He graduated from Murray State University with a Bachelor of Arts in 1997 and earned his Juris Doctor from Southern Illinois University School of Law in 2002. Those credentials set up a career that has moved between two neighboring states.

He is licensed to practice in both Kentucky and Illinois. After receiving his law degree, he entered practice and has worked in matters that require familiarity with the laws and courts of both states. Over more than two decades in practice, he has handled matters that cross state lines and has developed a working knowledge of the procedural and substantive differences between Kentucky and Illinois practice.

His professional life has included roles in private practice. He currently practices at Olsen & Oliver, PLLC. That firm affiliation appears on court dockets and filings in both states. He has represented clients in hearings and negotiations and has been involved in filings across state and local court systems.

Colleagues describe him as pragmatic in the courtroom. He takes a straightforward approach to case preparation and relies on detailed factual work. He prepares filings and motions with an eye toward clarity. In hearings he tends to favor direct questioning and concise argument. Those traits have shaped how he handles litigation and client counseling alike.

Outside of the courtroom, he has worked on transactional matters and has advised clients on compliance and regulatory issues that affect businesses operating in the two states where he is licensed. That work frequently requires coordinating with local counsel, because rules and procedures differ from county to county and between jurisdictions.

Clients and fellow lawyers encounter an attorney who balances courtroom work and out-of-court problem solving. He remains active in matters that involve state law in Kentucky and Illinois and files regularly in both places. He continues to accept cases through Olsen & Oliver, PLLC, where his practice focuses on legal matters arising in Kentucky and Illinois.
