About Jonathan L.
Jonathan L. Stein combines a technical undergraduate background with two decades of legal training and courtroom experience. He earned a B.A. in Computer Information Sciences from the State University of New York at Potsdam in 1990, and later returned to law school, receiving his J.D. from Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in 2000. Those academic milestones bookend an unusual path from computing to the practice of law.
After law school, Stein entered practice and built a career that spans both state and federal courts. He is admitted to the bars of New York and Colorado and holds admissions to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York as well as the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado. That multi-jurisdictional footing has allowed him to handle cases on both sides of the country and in federal forums when matters require it.
Early in his career Stein navigated the routine work of a litigator: drafting pleadings, preparing discovery, and appearing in motion practice. Over time he took on more complex filings and courtroom matters. His undergraduate study in computer information sciences has informed his handling of technically complex evidence and electronic discovery. He approaches technical issues methodically and tries to make technical records understandable to judges, juries, and opposing counsel.
Colleagues describe Stein as steady and practical in court. He has worked with clients who face both commercial disputes and procedural federal questions. He has experience coordinating with experts and translating technical reports into admissible evidence. Those tasks have regularly required careful preparation and clarity in presenting fact patterns that include electronic records, databases, or other technical materials.
Stein’s practice has required him to move between New York and Colorado courts. That geographic range has given him familiarity with differing local rules and procedural practices. He has also developed courtroom tactics for handling motions across jurisdictions and coordinating litigation strategy when cases touch multiple forums.
Now in private practice, Stein continues to handle matters in state and federal courts in New York and Colorado. His work remains grounded in litigation practice, with attention to technical evidence and procedural intricacy across the jurisdictions where he is admitted to appear.
