About Jonathan K
Jonathan K Nelson built his path to the law after a first career in banking and finance. He completed a B.A. in Finance at Grand Valley State University in 2001, stayed at GVSU for an MBA in 2003, and earned his J.D. from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in 2007. That mix of business training and legal education shaped the kinds of matters he would take on later.
Nelson’s professional life began in commercial banking. In 2005 he served as an assistant vice president at Comerica Bank. He moved through relationship management roles at Wells Fargo and U.S. Bank, holding titles including senior relationship manager in 2008 and middle market relationship manager in 2009. In 2011 he worked as a relationship manager in corporate banking at Nevada State Bank. Those years in finance gave him firsthand exposure to lending, credit analysis and the client-facing side of commercial transactions.
He transitioned into law practice in the early 2010s. Records show memberships and roles at Stovall & Associates beginning in 2012 and a lawyer position at Truitt and Associates in 2014. The shift culminated in 2015 when he became the managing lawyer of his own firm, J.K. Nelson Law. Since then he has maintained a private practice that reflects both his legal training and his commercial background.
Nelson is admitted to practice in Michigan and Nevada, and he is also admitted to the U.S. District Court for the District of Nevada. He has been a member of the State Bar of Michigan since 2008. On the local side, he takes part in the Clark County Bar Association and the Nevada Justice Association. He also holds community affiliations such as membership in the Pahrump Rotary and a role as official counsel for the Pahrump Chamber of Commerce.
Colleagues and clients encounter an attorney whose early career involved large financial institutions and who later moved into general legal practice. His experience touches on business, finance-related disputes and matters that benefit from familiarity with banking practices. He operates multiple offices under the J.K. Nelson Law name, serving clients in the regions where he holds licensure.
He continues to practice in Michigan and Nevada, and his current work centers on legal matters informed by his finance and banking background and on serving local business and individual clients.
