About Jonathan
Jonathan Bedi grew up curious about law and public institutions. He pursued that curiosity academically, studying political science and then attending law school. His education provided a foundation for courtroom work and public defense.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science at Loyola University Chicago and later took his legal training at American University Washington College of Law. Those studies preceded a career that has crossed private, public and appellate practice settings.
Bedi’s earliest listed position is at Navistar, where he worked as a lawyer beginning in 2005. Two years later he moved into public defense, joining the Cook County Public Defender’s office in 2007. That period sharpened his trial skills and exposed him to heavy caseloads and fast-moving courtroom schedules.
In 2017 he became a partner at Bedi & Singer, LLP. That step marked a transition back to private practice while retaining ties to trial and appellate work. The firm listing shows his role as partner and an ongoing presence at Bedi & Singer, LLP.
His court admissions cover a wide span of forums. Bedi is admitted in Illinois and has authority to appear before the U.S. Supreme Court. He also holds admissions to the Seventh Circuit and several federal district courts, including the Northern and Southern Districts of Illinois and the Northern District of Indiana. Those admissions reflect appellate and federal trial capability as part of his practice.
Professional associations have been a steady part of his career. He has been an active member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers since 2006 and joined the Chicago Inn of Court in 2010. He is a member of the Northern District of Illinois Trial Bar and serves as guest faculty at Notre Dame University College of Law. Those roles keep him connected to trial practice standards and legal education.
In practice he represents clients in criminal defense matters, handles jury and bench trials, and takes cases on appeal when needed. He appears routinely in federal and state courts and works on pretrial litigation, evidentiary hearings and trial preparation. He also participates in training and courtroom instruction through his guest faculty role.
He continues to practice at Bedi & Singer, LLP, representing clients in state and federal criminal matters and handling trials and appeals as part of the firm’s work.
