About Jon

Jon Velie studied science at the University of California, Berkeley before turning to law at the University of Oklahoma College of Law. His academic path paired a broad undergraduate degree with professional legal training in Oklahoma. The combination helped shape a lawyer comfortable in courtroom settings and in advising clients outside of them.

After law school he entered private practice in Oklahoma. In 1993 he began serving as CEO and principal lawyer at Velie Law Office. That year marked the start of a firm that he has led for more than three decades. He has maintained an active practice in the state and overseen the firm’s work on behalf of individuals and organizations in the region.

Through the 1990s and into the 2000s he built a practice anchored in the Oklahoma bar. Colleagues describe a steady, pragmatic approach to case handling. He has long preferred clear legal strategies and careful client communication. The office has handled a range of matters that reflect local legal needs and the realities of practicing law in Oklahoma.

His experience in private practice has been steady rather than flashy. He has worn the dual hats of administrator and advocate. Managing a small firm demanded attention to both legal detail and the daily rhythms of a business. That combination shaped how he approaches client problems: practical steps first, litigation tools second.

Today he continues to lead Velie Law Office as CEO and principal lawyer. He remains licensed to practice in Oklahoma and provides legal services to clients through the firm. His current practice focuses on representing clients in the state and running the office that has served the community since 1993.
