About John

John Yanchunis earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in 1976 and graduated from South Texas College of Law in 1980. He completed his formal legal training at a time when federal practice was becoming increasingly prominent. The early academic years set a pattern of steady professional advancement.

He has maintained bar membership since 1981 and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and several federal courts of appeals, including the 6th, 7th, 9th, 5th and 11th Circuits. Those admissions reflect a practice that has long reached beyond state lines. Courtroom work and appellate filings have been recurring elements of his career.

Yanchunis became a senior partner in 1997 at the firm James, Hoyer, Newcome, Smiljanich, and Yanchunis, P.A., a role that placed him at the center of complex litigation matters handled by that office. He later moved to Morgan & Morgan in 2011, where he joined as a lawyer. His record shows a trajectory from firm partnership to a role in one of the larger plaintiff-side firms operating across multiple jurisdictions.

Outside his law practice, he has held leadership roles in community organizations. In 2004 he served as president of the West Central Florida Council of the Boy Scouts of America. That position added a civic leadership dimension to his professional profile and involved oversight of local youth programs and volunteer networks.

Colleagues describe him as an experienced courtroom lawyer whose practice accommodates appeals and high-stakes litigation. He has argued and filed briefs in multiple federal appellate courts and holds the credential to appear before the nation’s highest court. Those credentials shape the kinds of matters he takes on and the courtroom strategies he employs.

Today he practices at Morgan & Morgan. He represents clients in federal appellate courts and handles matters that may proceed to or involve filings before the U.S. Supreme Court.
