Mr. Clay earned his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Houston Law Center in 1996. During his time there, he served as the Note & Comment Editor for the University of Houston Law Review, showcasing his commitment to legal scholarship. His academic achievements led to his induction into the prestigious Order of the Barons, recognizing his contributions to the law school community. Prior to this, he completed his Bachelor of Arts in Classical Studies at Rice University in 1993, where he graduated as a National Merit Finalist, underscoring his academic excellence from an early age. Jones of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, where he developed his skills in appellate law. Additionally, he served as a task-force staff attorney for the First Court of Appeals in Houston, adding to his understanding of the judicial process. From 1997 to 1999, he was an associate at Baker Botts LLP, one of Texas's leading law firms, where he developed a strong foundation in corporate law and litigation. He has been named a Texas Super Lawyer every year from 2012 to 2020, a distinction awarded to only a select group of attorneys in the state.
