About John

John Unell began his academic path studying government at the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned a B.A. in 1978. He went on to law school at Southern Methodist University and received his J.D. in 1985. Those years framed an interest in how property, regulation and local practice intersect in everyday transactions.

He has practiced law in Texas since the 1980s. Over four decades at the bar have given him a steady familiarity with the state's real estate systems. He has worked on matters that require an understanding of titles, deeds, contracts and the procedural mechanics that govern closings and conveyances. Colleagues describe him as steady and precise in handling paperwork and procedural complexity.

His credentials include board certification in both Residential Real Estate Law and Commercial Real Estate Law from the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Those certifications indicate successful peer review and testing in discrete areas of practice under Texas standards. He also maintains memberships in professional associations related to the practice of law and real property, and he keeps current on changes in state rules and case law that affect land and ownership issues.

For much of his career he has worked from his own office, operating as the Law Office of John S. Unell. That practice arrangement has allowed him to manage client relationships directly and to advise individuals, small businesses and other parties on real property questions. He has represented clients in transactional settings and has prepared and reviewed the documentation that commonly arises in residential and commercial deals. He is known for prioritizing clarity in contracts and for careful attention to title matters.

Today he continues to practice in Texas. His current practice focuses on residential and commercial real estate matters, including transactional work and advising clients on real property issues.
