About John T.

John T. McLaughlin built his legal foundation at Tufts University and completed his law degree at Suffolk University Law School in 1981. He entered the profession at a time of change in the legal market. The years since have given him a long view of how law and practice evolve.

He is admitted to practice in Massachusetts. Over more than four decades he has worked across matters that arise in that state. The span of his career covers multiple court cycles and shifting regulatory landscapes. He brings that continuity to work on behalf of clients and colleagues.

McLaughlin is a partner at Berluti McLaughlin & Kutchin LLP. In that role he shares responsibility for the firm’s caseload and its strategic direction. He works alongside other partners to allocate resources, supervise casework and guide less experienced lawyers through complex files. The firm environment keeps him engaged in both legal problem solving and the operational side of practice.

His day-to-day work involves advising clients, structuring legal responses and steering matters through the stages they require. He breaks problems into their practical parts and charts a course that matches legal options to client needs. He also spends time preparing briefs and reviewing factual records, tasks that occupy much of a partner’s calendar.

Colleagues describe him as steady in the courtroom of practice and consistent in the office. He has seen trends come and go. That perspective often shapes how he counsels clients about risks and timing. He is comfortable managing long-running matters as well as shorter engagements that require quick decisions.

Outside of firm responsibilities he has been involved in mentoring younger attorneys and helping them adapt to the realities of practice. That mentorship is part of his role as a partner and part of the firm’s structure for training incoming lawyers. He rarely seeks attention for those efforts. Instead, he focuses on making the next generation ready for the tasks ahead.

He remains based in Massachusetts and continues to represent clients there. His current practice focuses on legal matters arising in Massachusetts.
