About John
John Simpson built a career that bridges environmental science, business and law. He completed his undergraduate studies at Colby College in 1978, earning a B.A. in environmental science and geology. He went on to earn an MBA from Duke University in 1984, concentrating on finance and operations management. He later returned to school and received a J.D. from Vermont Law School in 1996.
Early in his post-law school career he took on roles that mixed legal work and business operations. In 1996 he worked as a Special Projects Associate at Perkins Coie LLP. That same year he served as CEO and general counsel at MacImage of Maine LLC, a role that combined corporate leadership with in-house legal responsibilities.
Those experiences shaped how he approaches client problems. He has experience on both the corporate side and in traditional legal practice. His background in finance and operations as well as environmental science informs how he assesses complex factual and commercial issues. Colby and Duke provided the technical and business grounding. Vermont Law School supplied formal training in legal analysis and advocacy.
Since 2014 he has practiced as a lawyer at Simpson Law. He is admitted to practice in Maine and maintains professional memberships. His work has ranged across corporate counsel duties, business matters and legal projects tied to operational questions. Colleagues describe him as pragmatic in advising clients and methodical in dissecting regulatory and transactional issues.
Outside the office he has balanced professional responsibilities with roles that require both legal judgment and business acumen. That combination has been a through line of his career — from environmental studies in college to running legal and business operations. He continues to practice at Simpson Law in Maine, drawing on his background in environmental science, finance and in-house counsel experience in his current work.
