About John
John Seay earned a B.A. in English and Philosophy from Birmingham-Southern College in 2003. He went on to receive his J.D. from The University of Georgia School of Law in 2010. Those academic years set the stage for a career that sits at the intersection of law and creative industries.
He founded The Seay Firm in 2011. The firm began as a small practice handling contracts, licensing and dispute matters for artists and media professionals. Seven years later he took an of counsel role at Loeb & Loeb in 2018, joining a larger platform while continuing to oversee work at his own firm. Seay practices in Georgia where he is admitted to the bar.
His work has a clear emphasis on entertainment and media. He represents musicians, production companies and content creators on agreements that range from recording and publishing deals to synchronization and distribution contracts. He also advises on rights clearance and licensing for television and digital content. The cases he handles are often transactional, but they can include litigation when contractual disputes arise.
Seay is active in organizations that connect law and the arts. He serves as chair of the State Bar of Georgia Entertainment & Sports Law Section, a role that has him working with other lawyers on policy and programming. He sits on the board of #weloveatl and maintains memberships in the Recording Academy and the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. He is also a member of Georgia Lawyers for the Arts.
Colleagues describe him as pragmatic in negotiations and precise in contract drafting. He tends to break complicated deals into clear, manageable terms so clients understand the trade-offs involved. His dual experience running a small firm and serving of counsel at a larger firm gives him a mix of hands-on client work and exposure to higher-profile transactional structures.
He contributes to local programming and bar activities aimed at educating artists about legal risk and business practice. Public speaking and panel work are a regular part of his calendar, particularly on topics that bridge the creative and legal communities. He maintains his practice in Georgia and represents artists and media companies in contracts, licensing and related disputes.
