About John R
John R Rodriguez built a layered academic foundation before entering practice. He earned a Juris Doctor from John F. Kennedy University in 1997, followed by a Master of Arts in Administration of Justice from Norwich University in 2005. He later completed a Ph.D. at Capella University in 2010. Those degrees sit alongside years of practical work and public service.
He opened Rodriguez Law Office in 1997 and has practiced under that banner since. Early in his career he served as a judge pro tem for the Solano County Superior Court in 1999, handling matters that required quick legal assessment and courtroom familiarity. That combination of courtroom work and private practice shaped his approach to litigation and client counseling.
Rodriguez has also spent time in the classroom. He served as an adjunct professor at Chapman University in 2006 and later taught at National University in 2012. Colleagues and students have encountered him as a practitioner who can explain complex rules and procedures in plain language. His academic roles mirror a willingness to engage with the next generation of lawyers and to test legal ideas in an instructional setting.
Professional associations form a steady thread through his career. He has been a member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the National College of DUI Defense, and he participates in the Immigration Advocates Network. Since 2014 he has been listed with Super Lawyers and is a member of the United States Southern District Court of California. He belongs to the San Diego Bar Association and the San Diego Sports & Entertainment Lawyers Association, and he has had membership with the United States Northern District Court of California since 1997. He served as president of the La Raza Lawyers Association in Solano County from 2006 to 2011, and he has chaired the San Diego County Bar Association beginning in 2016. He also participated in the American Immigration Lawyers Association Bedford Hills Program starting in 2015.
Across courtroom, clinic and classroom, Rodriguez has concentrated on matters that often intersect criminal law, immigration and DUI defense. He represents individuals in trials, hearings and federal proceedings, and he maintains an active practice through Rodriguez Law Office. He continues to accept cases that relate to criminal defense, immigration law and DUI matters.
