About John Patrick Carty

John Patrick Carty III built a career that begins in classrooms and extends into courtrooms across California. He earned a B.A. in political science from the University of California, Berkeley in the mid-1970s and went on to receive a J.D. from the University of California College of the Law, San Francisco in 1980. Those years set the groundwork for a legal life rooted in the Central Valley.

He is admitted to practice in California and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. The State Bar of California lists him as an active Lawyer-At-Law. Early professional years included local court work and steady involvement in county bar activities. That local grounding helped him develop a practice attuned to the needs of clients in small- and mid-sized matters.

Carty has also taken on leadership roles within the profession. In 1987 he served as either president or vice-president of the Calaveras County Bar Association, a position that placed him in close contact with other lawyers and judges across the region. He joined the San Joaquin County Bar Association in 2009 and remains a member, maintaining ties to the legal community in Stockton and Modesto.

He practices from Carty Law Offices, which maintains offices in Stockton and Modesto. Those locations keep him accessible to clients across the Central Valley and allow him to take cases in both state and federal venues. His practice reflects the routine demands of regional law; he handles filings, appearances, and courtroom work that arise in the local calendar.

Colleagues describe Carty as steady and pragmatic. He does not court publicity. Instead, he has preferred the day-to-day responsibilities of client work and bar service. Over decades he has balanced casework with the organizational tasks of bar association participation, providing continuity for clients who return over the years for new matters.

As he continues to work from his Stockton and Modesto offices, Carty remains active in the courts where he is admitted. He currently concentrates his practice on matters brought in California state courts and in the Ninth Circuit.
