About John

John Nelson trained in the law after a liberal arts start. He earned a B.A. in English Literature from California State University, Fullerton in 1973 and completed his J.D. at the University of La Verne College of Law in 1978. The combination of literature and law shaped his early interest in legal writing and argument.

After law school Nelson moved into practice. He built a career that spans state and federal matters and several decades of courtroom and appellate work. He is admitted to practice in Montana, and he holds admission to appear before the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the Ninth Circuit. Those admissions allow him to take cases beyond a single jurisdiction and to represent clients in federal appellate forums.

Nelson's background in English literature influences the way he frames legal issues. He tends to favor clear briefs and straightforward argument. Over the years that approach carried him through trial court practice and appellate filings alike. He has worked on matters that require careful written advocacy and an eye for procedural detail. He also draws on long experience handling the practical demands of litigation, from discovery disputes to motions practice.

In practice he has moved between state-level litigation and federal appellate work. The mix of forums means he is familiar with different rules and expectations. He knows how appellate standards differ from trial standards. That practical familiarity informs how he prepares a record and how he structures appellate submissions.

Today Nelson practices at the Law Offices of Foroozandeh APC. Colleagues and clients turn to him for steady courtroom representation and for handling appeals that must be argued in federal circuits. He continues to work on matters in Montana and in the federal appellate courts, combining decades of practice with an emphasis on written advocacy and appellate procedure.

He currently practices at the Law Offices of Foroozandeh APC, focusing on litigation in Montana and in the federal appellate courts.
