About John
John Mietus built his legal foundation in the classroom before moving into private practice. He earned a J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center in 1990. Earlier, he completed a B.A. in Government and Politics at the University of Maryland, College Park in 1987 and spent time at Cornell University in 1984. Those years framed a career that has spanned both large firm environments and a private practice of his own.
He entered private practice soon after law school and became a partner at Verner, Liipfert, Bernhard, McPherson and Hand in 1990. That early partnership placed him in the middle of a fast-paced Washington-area practice during a period of significant regulatory and transactional work for firms servicing government and corporate clients. In 2002 he moved into another senior role, taking partnership at DLA Piper US LLP, where the practice environment expanded further into multi-jurisdictional matters and a broad client base.
Across his years in large firms, Mietus handled a steady stream of commercial and regulatory work typical of national practices, while developing a client-facing approach that emphasized clarity and predictability. He practiced in both Maryland and the District of Columbia and maintained those admissions as he shifted roles. His track record through the 1990s and 2000s reflects steady advancement into senior lawyer positions and responsibilities for complex client matters.
At a point after more than two decades in firm practice, he established the Law Office of John Mietus, LLC. That move allowed him to shape a practice that draws on the institutional experience he gained at national firms while operating with the flexibility of a small practice. Colleagues and clients from different phases of his career describe a lawyer who prefers direct answers and practical solutions over technical complexity. He has continued to appear in matters within the Maryland and D.C. legal communities since forming his office.
Today he operates the Law Office of John Mietus, LLC and practices in Maryland and the District of Columbia. He brings more than three decades of private practice experience to his current work. He maintains a private practice handling matters in Maryland and the District of Columbia.
