About John
John Mathias built his legal foundation in Florida. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of South Florida in 1985 and completed his Juris Doctor at Stetson University College of Law in 1987. Those years set the stage for a multi-decade practice tied to the Tampa Bay region.
Early in his career he established a private practice that would become The Law Offices of John R. Mathias, P.A. He served as president of that firm in 2006 and has remained tied to the practice since. Colleagues describe a steady presence in local legal circles and a willingness to take on procedural and courtroom work when cases require it.
Memberships have been a constant. Mathias has been listed with the Florida Justice Association and the St. Petersburg Bar since 1996, and he joined the American Association for Justice in 1998. He is also a member of Tampa Bay Trial Lawyers and the Northeast Exchange Club. From 2009 to 2011 he served on the Florida Bar Grievance Committee for the Sixth Judicial Circuit, a role that involved reviewing ethical complaints and committee deliberations.
That mix of bar activity and trial organization involvement has shaped how he approaches cases. He has worked alongside trial advocates and participated in bar committee processes, which has given him regular exposure to courtroom procedure and professional responsibility issues. He combines that practical exposure with the business background he gained at USF, aiming to address both legal and practical aspects of disputes.
Today Mathias remains active in local legal and civic groups while maintaining his practice at The Law Offices of John R. Mathias, P.A. He continues to accept matters arising in the circuit and maintains relationships across the St. Petersburg legal community. He currently practices at The Law Offices of John R. Mathias, P.A., where his work centers on litigation and client advocacy.
