About John M. Ransom

John M. Ransom II built his legal foundation in two different cities and left neither one behind. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies from American University in 2003 and completed a Juris Doctor at Texas Tech University School of Law in 2004. Those early academic years set a busy pace and introduced him to both public service and litigation work.

After law school, Ransom moved into roles that blended program leadership and legal work. In 2004 he served as Program Director for Camp For All, an experience that paired organizational oversight with hands-on management of operations and volunteer coordination. He later returned to the nonprofit sector in governance roles, including board service for Camp For All Foundation and other charitable organizations.

Ransom’s courtroom and bankruptcy exposure began to deepen during an internship in 2006 with the Honorable Jeff Bohm in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas. That placement gave him direct experience with bankruptcy dockets and the procedural cadence of federal bankruptcy litigation. He followed that with a series of in-house counsel roles in 2009, first at Gen-Tech Construction and then at Rosecrans Services Company, where he combined contract work, compliance tasks, and hands-on company legal support while also serving as an assistant program manager.

In 2012 he joined Laura Dale & Associates, P.C. as an associate lawyer. That move brought him back into private practice and into a firm setting where bankruptcy and commercial litigation are regular matters. Over the years he has maintained memberships in local and professional groups, including the Houston Bar Association and the Burta Rhoads Raborn Family Law Inn of Court. He also helped to co-found the Houston chapter of the American University Alumni Association and has served on boards such as the Epilepsy Foundation of Texas and the Constellation Foundation.

Ransom holds courtroom privileges in the United States Bankruptcy and District Court for the Southern District of Texas, in addition to his jurisdictional practice in Texas. His career path reflects a mix of public court work, in-house legal roles, nonprofit governance, and firm-based litigation practice. Colleagues describe him as practical and grounded in procedure, someone comfortable handling both case strategy and the day-to-day tasks that keep a matter moving.

He practices at Laura Dale & Associates, P.C., and handles bankruptcy and related litigation matters in the Southern District of Texas and in state courts in Texas.
